Established in 1996, the Petrach Program on Ukraine, based at the Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, advances the study and understanding of Ukraine through research, teaching, scholarship, and public engagement. Made possible through the William and Helen Petrach Endowment for Ukrainian Studies, the Program carries forward a lasting legacy of support for Ukrainian Studies.

A leading hub for Ukrainian Studies in the Washington, D.C., area, the Program brings together faculty, students, visiting scholars, policymakers, and the broader community to engage with Ukraine’s politics, society, culture, and international relations. Its vibrant network includes more than a dozen faculty associates, an affiliated student organization, residential and non-residential visiting scholars, distinguished former associates, and an active program of events addressing issues critical to Ukraine.
